Children are always a pleasure to photograph especially when they are like this young fellow. He enjoyed having this picture taken. He was often nearby ready for another shot.

Photoshoot with Washington, DC model Donte Newman.
Donte Newman is a hard-working DC model. He was born and raised in Washington and is a proud graduate of Ballou High School.
This was the third time Donte and I worked together. The previous two shoots were studio shoots done totally with strobe lights. I wanted something different and decided to move away from flash and work with natural lighting.
The shirt that Donte is wearing is a black and white knit one that I have had in my closet for about 20 years. I like the shirt but I had never won it because after buying it I never thought it looked right on me. I had even suggested it to a few models before but they just were not feeling it. The shirt has to be at least 2 decades old as I purchased it from Woodward & Lothrop – a Washington, DC department store that closed in 1995. Donte liked the shirt and decided to wear it with some jeans. It was a good look.
When reviewing the pictures it seemed that they called for Black and White versus color. This is one of the occasions where I thought color would definitely get in the way.
I think Donte rocked the shirt. Maybe one day I might even wear it myself.

A first glance at one of Larry B. Quick’s pieces and one may not understand what one is seeing. Looking closer one will see stitches and notice complexity. Quick’s art is unique. He paints on canvases, cuts pieces and then sews them together. What follows is a wonderful story told with meaningful colors and tones.
Larry and I have been good friends for about 5 years and I have had opportunities to photograph both him and his work. Hundreds of hours have been spent discussing life and the arts. While he has been a working artist for many years I am confident in the near future you will be hearing and seeing more of the works of Larry B. Quick. A few samples are shown below.
Larry’s art is a reflection of his life growing up in Washington, DC and was honed by his studies at the Corcoran School of Art of which he is a graduate.
Larry is also known to many in the Washington area as one of the co-founders of Life Pieces to Masterpieces, a mentoring organization for young African-American males. His life has been as interesting as his art.

Everybody loves beautiful cakes. I think that beauty can be found in half eaten cakes as well. There is something about the contrast betweeen the touched and the untouched. You can also see how much the cake has been enjoyed.
I normally only photograph people but recently did a photo shoot for a grocery store grand opening. The arrangement of the produce was beautiful and made wonderful images.
The produce display in the store was so beautiful that it was a shame for anyone to disturb it. Grocers became artists. Not being an art gallery the pieces had to be removed for purchase.
