Diamonds! – Women with Age Photography

Photography showcasing the beauty of women with age. Diamonds!!

Some of these women are sisters from church,  some I met at various events, some are aunts.  Some are friends from the neighborhood.  The one on the cover with the black hat is my late mother.

Some are gone all and some are still here to treasure.  God bless them all!

Do you have pictures of your diamonds?

Family Reunion – Honoring our Seniors

 Hart-Sims Family Reunion

We celebrated our family reunion this past weekend as we have consecutively each year since 1976.  This year I wanted to honor our senior family members for their examples and contribution to the family.  God bless them!

Aunt Vivian ldAunt Vivian

The last of the Hart brothers and sisters.
I like to be around her because she reminds me so much of my mother.   For the longest time she would not let me take her picture but yesterday she sat patiently for a portrait.

Glennelle ld Glen

One of Uncle Marvin’s daughters.  When I see her I always think truant officer because she was one way, way back in the day in NC. She has had a career in education since then.

Triumph! Challenges but Celebrating Second Birthday like a Rock Star!

My nephew was born premature and had many challenges including numerous surgeries.

This week Little Nick celebrates his second birthday.  Family and friends are partying all month!

These pictures were taken at his lunch pool party followed by a family dinner.  That’s only the beginning!

7 year old says he wants to cut the grass. I got it on tape!

My seven year old grandson was so excited about cutting the grass when he saw me working in the yard.  I thought it would be great to capture him on video so I can play it back when he is old enough to actually cut grass.

I am not sure that it will be legally binding.

What do you think?

Stroke Recovery – The Journey Back

Stroke Recovery

stroke recovery walk

It was almost a year ago while minding my business and at the end of what seemed to be a  normal day, I was stricken with a stroke.  Doctors said it was a “small” stroke but it has made a major difference in my life.

I was blessed to not have most of the issues that stroke victims have  – no headaches, no speech problems, no vision problems, and no notable facial drooping.  I did have weakness on my right side and the inability to use my right arm and leg.  When I woke up that day I did not imagine how it would end or that I would spend almost the next 8 weeks in hospitals and rehab facilities.

Wheel chair bound and having to ask to be taken to the bathroom was my start.   Hard headed I listened to what doctors were saying but I never imagined being less than what I was before the stroke.  When I was wheel chair bound I imagined being able to walk with a cane.  Each day I pleaded with the therapist to leave one in my room so I could practice. Eventually one day she “forgot” and left one there.

Once I became comfortable (in my mind) with the cane and before the therapist thought I was ready I started taking steps without the cane.  Scolded for walking around the rehab center without the cane I became more frustrated but more determined and somewhat sneaky.  I felt that it was my body and if I fell it was my business.   Fortunately, I never fell at the rehab.  I could notimagine being cane bound.

Now I am almost 11 months into my stroke recovery.  I go where I want to go on my own 2 feet. No cane or wheel chair!  My walk is not pretty yet.  It is getting easier and easier to walk up and down hills and to climb on and off metro buses and the subway.  I am also a professional photographer taking pictures again – probably better than I did before.  People see me on the streets and probably feel sorry for me and think I have it so bad but they have no idea what I looked like a few months ago nor can they imagine how great I will be walking next month which will be 1 year post stroke.  I can imagine it!

Do you have an ailment or situation and know that you are going to do better?  You just can’t imagine anything l

The carnival comes to town in the summer. Maryland

When the carnival comes to time it’s a good time for pictures.  Beautiful lights whether it’s color or black and white.  Night time adds even more beauty.

The first pictured carnival took place at Capital Plaza n Landover Hills, MD.

The black and white pictures are from the carnival that was located in New Carrollton, MD around 2006.  It was located at the corner of Annapolis Road and Riverdale Road.  If you are familiar with the area there used to be a Toys-R-Us there.  Now the is a CVS Pharmacy and a TD Bank.

Anyone remember going to these carnivals?

If you plan to be married at the Clerk’s Office located in the Circuit Court Annex in Upper Marlboro I can meet you there.  Courthouse weddings can save the bridal couple lots of money while still providing an opportunity for beautiful pictures.

Photography can be taken during the ceremony and at the beautiful lake across the street.  If you are planning a reception or gathering afterwards that photography can also be included.
