Life before Backpacks. How did we get our stuff to school?

I don’t recall ever having a backpack – grade school through college. In fact I don’t even remember having enough of anything to need a backpack!

Is it hot enough for an egg to fry on the sidewalk? Don’t know and it’s too hot to find out!

An egg may or may not be able to fry on a sidewalk in the Washington, DC area on a day like today. I was too hot to care and I had a mess to clean up.

Doggone hot in Washington, DC!

Downtown Washington, DC turned Purple for Pancreatic Cancer Research

I never appreciated the beauty of the color purple until I saw masses of purple T-Shirts and purple and white balloons in downtown Washington this past Saturday.

A ride aboard the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward is one that I would highly recommend.  It provided me with one of the most exciting and  unbelievable opportunities to make pictures.  In every direction that I pointed my camera there was something breathtaking to capture.

Senator Edward Kennedy funeral procession–Downtown Washington, DC

On Saturday, August 29, 2009, Senator Edward Kennedy’s funeral procession traveled slowly through downtown Washington on its way to Arlington National Cemetery. I had the opportunity to capture these images as it passed along Constitution Avenue near 14th Street.

Photography Tip No. 2: Don’t just stand in one spot.

If you shoot from different angles and compose your images from different locations you will find your pictures to be more interesting.

Christian lady laid to rest in style.

Wonderful Christian lady and civil servant was laid to rest yesterday in the same style that she lived. Horse drawn carriage and release of 7 white doves part of beautiful graveside services.

The Scurlock Studio Exhibit at Smithsonian a Must-See

Have you heard of Addison Scurlock and his sons George and Robert? Very few people have and that is a shame! In my opionion the Scurlocks are among the greatest American photographers PERIOD!! The Scurlocks photographed EVERYONE during their time which spanned the early 1900s to around 1994.
